OSF

Developed by the Centre for Open Science, the Open Science Framework is a free, open-source platform that can be used to manage a project throughout each step of the research data management lifecycle.  A versatile platform, researchers can use it to organize, collaborate, store, and share components of a research project.

What

With OSF you can:

  • Collaborate with researchers at UT Dallas or across the world
  • Assign granular project permissions and decide whether to make a project private or public
  • Create a Wiki for a project
  • Track file changes using built in version control capabilities
  • Create unique persistent URLs, DOIs, and ARKs
  • Make your work citable and measure its’ impact.
  • Store and archive data or use OSF as a data repository
  • Connect storage or citation add-ons to your project like Box, OneDrive, GitHub, AWS, Zotero, and more
  • Share posters and presentations
  • License a project
  • Preprint manuscripts
  • Pre-register or register a research project

When

OSF is a great tool for managing projects and fostering collaboration. Because OSF is so versatile, it can be used in a variety of situations from small projects to large research collaborations. Use it in labs and classrooms to collect lab reports, create a wiki with descriptions about a project, or use it to meet funder data sharing requirements by making research data accessible. See below for OSF project examples. Click here to learn about how OSF, Research Gate, and Google Scholar compare.
